Biography
The community was founded in Lapmežciems back in 2007, and over the years, it has gone through several phases.
Originally, it was established as an organization for young mothers under the name “Māmiņas bērnu labklājībai” (“Mothers for the Well-being of Children”). Led by Diāna Kēviša, the community accomplished an important task during this period—transforming the old public bathhouse premises in Lapmežciems into functional childcare facilities, which at the time were in high demand.
As the local situation changed, the need for childcare services decreased, the composition of the members evolved, and the community name was changed to “Labklājībai” (“For Well-being”)—a reflection that its focus had expanded beyond just young mothers. However, with time, the community activity gradually diminished. The renovated premises, now known as “Zaķīšu pirtiņa” (“Little Bunnies’ Bathhouse”), were handed over to the local municipality and are still used today as a day center, primarily serving the needs of children and students.
Since the spring of 2021, with growing resident engagement in local activities, the community has renewed its operations.
The Jūrciemi Residents’ Community Today
- The community is made up of people from our own community – currently, about 10 active members are involved in day-to-day activities (with a total members of 20).
We want to emphasize that the community is open to every resident of the area. Each of us has a unique strength to contribute- including you. If you’re considering joining, feel free to contact us at info@jurciemi.lv and come meet us in person! - The community is an independent organization with its own goals and plans. However, we aim to collaborate with the parish administration, the local museum, the school, the culture center, and also with local businesses. We truly believe that strength lies in cooperation – the more we achieve together for our community, the better life will be for all of us.
- Our members work on a voluntary basis, giving their own time. That means projects move forward at a pace we can manage, but the key is that progress is happening – toward a more livable and welcoming environment.
Why do we do it? Because we want to be part of shaping our community, and because it feels genuinely rewarding to be surrounded by active, inspiring people. - Our mission is to help create a friendly and supportive environment for residents. That’s why we aim to encourage community engagement and attract resources to support local interest groups and organize community events.

The Community Strategic Documents:
What is our actual connection to the “Jūrciemi” brand?
The brand was created under the leadership of the community, with the involvement of other local residents. “Jūrciemi” is a marketing tool for uniting and presenting our community. It acts as an umbrella under which each village, business, or resident can also express themselves individually. The community has taken on the responsibility of developing this brand, which is why we are increasingly identifying with it and starting to refer to ourselves as the Jūrciemi Community . At the same time, we encourage everyone in the community to use and promote the Jūrciemi brand!
